Review: Snoop Dogg, Tyga, T.I. and more push Powerhouse late into the night at Honda Center

June 24th, 2012, 7:55 pm by

Last time I went to a Powerhouse, Nelly performed his smash “Dilemma” with Kelly Rowland, who was then still with Destiny’s Child. That was more than a decade ago. Flash-forward to Saturday at Honda Center and the night belonged not to St. Louis’ finest but once more to West Coast rap, thanks to appearances from Tha Doggfather himself, Snoop Dogg, and hot newcomer Tyga, who closed out the show.

The popularity of L.A. hip-hop titan Power 106’s yearly summer concert was undoubtedly clear, causing more than two-hour waits for many fans just to reach the Anaheim arena. The second Freeway Series game between the Angels and the Dodgers across Katella Avenue didn’t help any.

Once inside, however, frustration on the streets quickly yielded to party time.

Music News: Linkin Park, Incubus to play Home Depot Center

May 8th, 2012, 8:07 am by

For a change, the Honda Civic Tour actually won’t be coming to Honda Center this year. Indeed, it won’t stop in Orange County at all.

That’s because the annual outing has nabbed two giant co-headliners — L.A. peers Linkin Park and Incubus — who combined could sell out multiple nights at that arena.

Thus, they require a larger spot to play: Sept. 8 at Home Depot Center in Carson, site of this weekend’s Wango Tango.

Mutemath will open that night as well as at the trek’s other Southern California stop, Sept. 10 at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre.

That date is already on sale, $32.50-$107. The HDC show goes on sale Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m. Check back for ticket prices.

Linkin Park’s next album, Living Things, drops June 26. The fifth proper effort from the group in a dozen years of studio work was co-produced by Rick Rubin and the band’s sonic shaper, Mike Shinoda.

Incubus, who just impressed at this past weekend’s Weenie Roast in Irvine, are still touring behind their seventh album, last summer’s If Not Now, When?
