Music News: Linkin Park, Incubus to play Home Depot Center

May 8th, 2012, 8:07 am by

For a change, the Honda Civic Tour actually won’t be coming to Honda Center this year. Indeed, it won’t stop in Orange County at all.

That’s because the annual outing has nabbed two giant co-headliners — L.A. peers Linkin Park and Incubus — who combined could sell out multiple nights at that arena.

Thus, they require a larger spot to play: Sept. 8 at Home Depot Center in Carson, site of this weekend’s Wango Tango.

Mutemath will open that night as well as at the trek’s other Southern California stop, Sept. 10 at Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre.

That date is already on sale, $32.50-$107. The HDC show goes on sale Saturday, May 12, at 10 a.m. Check back for ticket prices.

Linkin Park’s next album, Living Things, drops June 26. The fifth proper effort from the group in a dozen years of studio work was co-produced by Rick Rubin and the band’s sonic shaper, Mike Shinoda.

Incubus, who just impressed at this past weekend’s Weenie Roast in Irvine, are still touring behind their seventh album, last summer’s If Not Now, When?

Slideshow: Highlights from KROQ’s annual Weenie Roasts

April 26th, 2012, 6:41 pm by

With KROQ 106.7 FM’s sold-out 20th Annual Weenie Roast y Fiesta happening on May 5 – featuring headliners Coldplay, Incubus, the Offspring, Silversun Pickups and Garbage at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater – we decided to take a look back at past Weenie fests. Check out what I thought of the 2011 Weenie Roast with surprise guest the Foo Fighters here.

Click here for a photo slideshow of past KROQ Weenie Roasts.

The multi-artist rock concert has been presented annually since 1993 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, formerly known as Irvine Meadows, with the exception of 2000, when it was held at Angel Stadium in Anaheim and featured No Doubt, Korn, Ozzy Osbourne, the Offspring, Creed, Moby, Stone Temple Pilots, Third Eye Blind, Lit and more.

The inaugural event took place on June 12, 1993 and featured Terence Trent D’Arby, Dramarama, Gin Blossoms, the Lemonheads, the Posies, Rocket from the Crypt, X and Stone Temple Pilots.

Of all the artists to have played Weenie Roast, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bad Religion and Tim Armstrong, whether solo, with Rancid or the Transplants, have performed most frequently through the years.

Take a spin through our slideshow to see many of the acts that have performed – some memorable, others may have you asking, “What happened to that dude/band/white rapper?”

Coldplay, Incubus, Offspring, Silversun Pickups lead lineup for KROQ’s 20th Weenie Roast

April 2nd, 2012, 11:00 am by

It’s happening sooner than ever before. But seeing as the calendar worked out just right for the 20th staging to be celebrated on Cinco de Mayo, why wouldn’t it be held earlier than usual?

KROQ/106.7 FM has revealed details for its next Weenie Roast y Fiesta, May 5 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, and the lineup is another solid mix of modern rock giants, reliable punk veterans and intriguing indie newcomers.

Coldplay will headline, a month ahead of its three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl, marking the first time the Chris Martin-led quartet has appeared at the event since 2001, when the then-new makers of “Yellow” were placed low on a bill headed up by Jane’s Addiction, Blink-182 and Stone Temple Pilots.

Also toward the top of the rundown are two other KROQ mainstays: Incubus, still promoting last July’s If Not Now, When?, and one of Orange County’s most durable bands, the Offspring, who reportedly have completed work on what should be their first album in four years.

Silversun Pickups also will play, three days before the trio issues its third disc, Neck of the Woods. Long-running Hermosa Beach band Pennywise, on the other hand, will once again perform at Weenie Roast just days after releasing its 10th album, All or Nothing, the group’s first studio set with new vocalist Zoli Téglás, who replaced Jim Lindberg in 2009.
