Coldplay, Incubus, Offspring, Silversun Pickups lead lineup for KROQ’s 20th Weenie Roast

It’s happening sooner than ever before. But seeing as the calendar worked out just right for the 20th staging to be celebrated on Cinco de Mayo, why wouldn’t it be held earlier than usual?
KROQ/106.7 FM has revealed details for its next Weenie Roast y Fiesta, May 5 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, and the lineup is another solid mix of modern rock giants, reliable punk veterans and intriguing indie newcomers.
Coldplay will headline, a month ahead of its three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl, marking the first time the Chris Martin-led quartet has appeared at the event since 2001, when the then-new makers of “Yellow” were placed low on a bill headed up by Jane’s Addiction, Blink-182 and Stone Temple Pilots.
Also toward the top of the rundown are two other KROQ mainstays: Incubus, still promoting last July’s If Not Now, When?, and one of Orange County’s most durable bands, the Offspring, who reportedly have completed work on what should be their first album in four years.
Silversun Pickups also will play, three days before the trio issues its third disc, Neck of the Woods. Long-running Hermosa Beach band Pennywise, on the other hand, will once again perform at Weenie Roast just days after releasing its 10th album, All or Nothing, the group’s first studio set with new vocalist Zoli Téglás, who replaced Jim Lindberg in 2009.

Rounding out the roster are Blink offshoot Angels & Airwaves, Huntington Beach reggae-rock outfit the Dirty Heads, regrouped ’90s greats Garbage, plus four breakout acts — two from L.A. (Awolnation and Grouplove), one from Cincinnati (Walk the Moon) and the last, perhaps the buzziest of all, from Reykjavik, Iceland (Of Monsters and Men).
Tickets go on sale Thursday, April 5, at noon exclusively through LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.com. There will be no phone, box office or Ticketmaster outlet sales, and you must be a KROQ Street Team member to get the password enabling you to buy. Click here to sign up.
Prices weren’t immediately available (we’ll update this post once we find out), but last year’s ranged from $45 to $75. Proceeds will benefit Heal the Bay and Surfrider Foundation.
